This illuminates the difference between Western and Traditional medicine.

Western medicine focuses on treating symptoms and acute care, where traditional medicine focuses on wellness. Western medicines focus on the actions of single constituents while traditional medicine relies on entourage effects of extracts and compounds.

Western approach to mental health assumes a neurotypical subject, and assesses people as though they’re neurotypical. Reported and clinical observations of behavior don’t generally consider the fact that people can engage in similar behaviors with very different motivations.

Primary dysfunction is that therapeutic methods effective for neurotypical aren’t necessarily so for autistic, and may be harmful. The difficulty then is distinguishing between autistic, and neurotypical affecting autistic behaviors.
